A FEW WORDS ABOUT US

OUR HISTORY

From 1990 to 2001, Richard Hipkin held many management roles within Bottoms Up. Starting off as a branch manager in their Chelmsford store, he was soon promoted to Area Manager covering East Anglia, additionally joining a team of four nationally orchestrating the chains marketing strategy. By 1995, Richard was also a judge in the International Wine Challenge, 1998 saw him go to Central London to manage the flagship store for two years, overseeing the Millennium campaign. After that, he spent a year in Cambridge running over fifty college accounts.

It was then in early 2001, Richard decided he wanted to open his own wine store. After much searching around his home county of Essex, he found the site he wanted in Marks Tey. By November the store was his and Chateau Wines was born. The plan was to sell a range of wines that were more interesting than the multiples could sell at prices competitive with the supermarkets. With much support from family and friends (too many to name all, but particularly my father and my late dear friend James) the store has grown in stature and popularity for the past sixteen years.

The logical and long overdue next stage is to make Chateau Wines accessible online. So here we are…
